ArtScience Prize Oklahoma - Paris 2012

Oklahoma ArtScience Prize Students Invited to Attend International Innovation Workshop in Paris

Each year, one student team from Creative Oklahoma’s ArtScience Prize Program earns top notches in the fields of art & science and receives an invitation to the International Innovation Workshop at Le Laboratoire in Paris, France where they are joined by teams from Harvard, Boston, Singapore, Minneapolis, Paris, Dhahran, and Dublin.

The winning team for the 2011-2012 year is Virtual Hope; a team of students committed to lending a hand to the homeless with a Virtual Worlds twist. With their project idea, One Step Up, the team hopes to develop an interactive communications station equipped with community resources to give local homeless families a hand up, instead of a hand out. The ATM-like station will include access to a database of nearby shelters, soup kitchens, and bus routes that can be accessed through the touch pad located on the face of the machine. In addition, the students hope to integrate the system with voicemail capabilities, so that the homeless can remain in touch with their families and receive call-backs from prospective employers.

Oklahoma Innovation Task Force Held First Meeting

The first meeting of the Oklahoma Innovation Task Force was held on May 30, 2012 at the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Board Room. Task Force members are working towards the development of the Oklahoma Innovation Index.

The members believe Oklahoma education would greatly benefit from the formation of the index. “It will produce conditions that collectively maximize the chances for students thinking and behaving in creative and innovative ways. It is not a systematic accountability measurement,” stated John Feaver, President, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Innovation Task Force is a public/private partnership established by the Oklahoma Governor’s Office in partnership with Creative Oklahoma. The Task Force includes educators and business and community leaders. The Task Force is greatly aware of the need for creativity cultivation in education and will meet monthly to develop the Innovation Index.
