Oklahoma ArtScience Prize Students Are Headed to Cambridge!

The ArtScience Prize was founded in 2008 by Harvard University professor Dr. David Edwards as an interdisciplinary education program to educate and support Boston high school students as they explored and developed groundbreaking ideas around an annual scientific theme.

In 2010, Creative Oklahoma partnered with the ArtScience Prize to expand the program to Oklahoma as the organization’s first out-of-state expansion project. The  Oklahoma ArtScience Prize is now in its fifth pilot year serving students from a number of Oklahoma City high schools. The program is a year-long after school competition through which students generate ideas around some of the most important global issues, merging design and modern science. The student teams work on their ideas with a culminating juried competition. The winning team spends one week in Cambridge, Massachusetts with Dr. Edwards, Harvard students and other international teams to further develop their project ideas.

The 2014-2015 Oklahoma ArtScience Prize program is a partnership between Creative Oklahoma, Metro Technology Center, the University of Central Oklahoma and Inclusion in Art. This year’s student teams have developed projects on “Biodiversity” and will participate in the juried competition on May 14 at the University of Central Oklahoma.

The public is invited to attend the Oklahoma ArtScience Prize Announcement on Tuesday, May 19, at 6:00 p.m. at Metro Technology Center’s Springlake Campus in Oklahoma City. The formal announcement will be made that evening of the selected team who will represent Oklahoma for one week in July at the international ArtScience Prize Innovation Lab to be held in Cambridge, Massachusetts with Dr. Edwards and his students.
