Unique Creativity Competition Sends Oklahoma City Students to Cambridge
OKLAHOMA CITY (May 17)—Creative Oklahoma’s ArtScience Prize students will celebrate their accomplishments and announce this year’s competition winners at the Formal Prize Announcement May 19 at the Oklahoma City Metro Technology Center.
The Oklahoma ArtScience Prize is an annual year-long after school competition through which Oklahoma high school students are challenged to develop innovative design ideas infused with concepts at the forefront of modern science. This year’s Oklahoma ArtScience Prize students are from Oklahoma City area high schools.
The Oklahoma ArtScience Prize students were given creative freedom to explore the 2014-2015 ArtScience theme of “biodiversity” to develop a project that can bring change into the world. This year’s projects were based around horticulture for the elderly, cultural awareness and furniture for individuals with health concerns.
The selected team will travel to Lab Cambridge, Cambridge, Massachusetts, to work with Harvard Professor and ArtScience Prize founder Dr. David Edwards, Harvard and MIT students, and other teams from around the world to further develop their innovative project concepts.
All of the teams will be involved in a special summer Innovation Institute workshop on the UCO campus to further their projects. Students are encouraged to continue to work independently even after the competition portion of the program has ended. These students will continue receive support from Creative Oklahoma and Metro Tech Career Academy and will be connected to resources and professionals to help bring their projects to prototype level.
The Oklahoma ArtScience Prize is a program of Creative Oklahoma in collaboration with Metro Tech Career Academy and Inclusion in Art. The program is sponsored by the Anschutz Foundation.
