Oklahoma ArtScience Prize Students Invited to Attend International Innovation Workshop in Paris
Each year, one student team from Creative Oklahoma’s ArtScience Prize Program earns top notches in the fields of art & science and receives an invitation to the International Innovation Workshop at Le Laboratoire in Paris, France where they are joined by teams from Harvard, Boston, Singapore, Minneapolis, Paris, Dhahran, and Dublin.
The winning team for the 2011-2012 year is Virtual Hope; a team of students committed to lending a hand to the homeless with a Virtual Worlds twist. With their project idea, One Step Up, the team hopes to develop an interactive communications station equipped with community resources to give local homeless families a hand up, instead of a hand out. The ATM-like station will include access to a database of nearby shelters, soup kitchens, and bus routes that can be accessed through the touch pad located on the face of the machine. In addition, the students hope to integrate the system with voicemail capabilities, so that the homeless can remain in touch with their families and receive call-backs from prospective employers.
